US Air Force Academy Chapel | Grand Trip Out West

So...I finished posting all the photos from the Grand Trip Out West a week ago...and it wasn't until yesterday that I realized...I forgot to post the pictures from the Air Force Academy Chapel!

We greatly enjoyed seeing the Cadet Chapel one morning when we were in Colorado Springs - it is so beautiful and unique! The best part was that the organist was playing when we walked in! It was also fun to see it since our friends Lizzy and Jeremiah got married there about a year ago. :)

Memories from Texas & Louisiana | Grand Trip Out West

We had a quiet last few days of our trip as we drove down through Colorado, the NE corner of New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana...and then we finally made it home. One more post after this. :)


This was actually about the only fire we saw in Colorado. We are so thankful that the LORD kept us safe from wildfires!


You'd never believe this was New Mexico, but in the northeastern corner of the state there is a large area of grassland. It's beautiful!


We finally made it back to Texas!


And we stayed in Wichita Falls again, so hey! Remember that sign? :)

You know you're back in Texas when you see a Papasitos AND a Pappadeaux!


And, of course, since In-N-Out is in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area...we had to eat there one last time.


Glad to be (almost) back in the South, I got a cup of sweet tea for the first time in weeks. It was so good. :)

We spent an enjoyable couple of hours at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth. It's free admission, and houses a large collection of beautiful paintings and sculptures by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell.

The Yosemite Valley - it was neat to see such a beautiful painting of a place we had seen on our trip!

There was a beautiful sunset over the campground we stayed at in Conroe, Texas (north of Houston).





We were so glad to be on the road towards home!

I finally learned on this trip that it's pronounced A-CHA-fa-LYE-uh.

It was like heaven staying in Carencro (and if you know how to pronounce that, please say so in the comments). It was so beautiful and green...

The US Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs | Grand Trip Out West

After a wonderful morning seeing the Broadmoor Hotel, we had lunch with friends, drove through Garden of the Gods, and took a tour of the US Olympic Training Center!


We FINALLY got to eat at Chipotle! We'd been wanting to for years, but we don't have them in Mississippi. (We do have Moe's, which is very similar.) It was SO good!


We got to meet our friend Lizzy's mom, Mrs. Cindy, and her brother, Matthew!  We got to know Lizzy last fall when she rode with us to a Bible study (she and her husband, Jeremiah, were at Keesler AFB last fall/this spring for him to go through training). We were so glad to meet her family!




We drove through Garden of the Gods - we didn't have much time left that afternoon, and it was rather hot outside, so we decided not to walk around and see more of it. We'll do that the next time we're in Colorado!

My heart sank a little when I realized just how close we were to Manitou Springs. Sarah's and my dear friend, Kathryn, is there for the summer, and we had no time to see her! :(


Colorado Springs is also home to the United States Olympic Committee!


And...they offer free tours of the US Olympic Training Center!




It was so cool!!


Men gymnasts train there - women don't, typically, since the peak age for that sport is 16, and you have to be at least 16 to live and train there.






That's how high the diving platforms are!


We peeked in the windows to see the pool...




The gym, where athletes in many sports do strength training in the off-season.




Those are bobsled team members!


There's a huge indoor shooting range there, too.








There were really interesting sculptures all over the place!
