Thankfully, after our not-very-good day that Saturday (see previous post) we had a much better day on Sunday. :) We found a church nearby (last-minute) and it turned out to be wonderful. The preaching was excellent, the music was beautiful, and we met such sweet, kind people!
We were at Port Hueneme for just one full day (Sunday), so we spent that afternoon at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley. What an incredible experience. And if you ever go, bring a box of Kleenex. You'll need them.
The (re-created) Oval Office, as it was when President Reagan was there.
If I'm not mistaken, this is a copy of a famous sculpture by either Charles Russell or Frederic Remington.
They had a film playing in one part of the museum showing several famous singers and musicians performing at the White House. One of them was Vladimir Horowitz, and Sarah and I were so excited to see the piano we played on!
Air Force One. It was fascinating to walk inside and see it! (No pictures, though.) And it was amazing to see how they took the wings off, trucked it to the museum, reassembled it, and finished building the pavilion around it!
Marine One. I wish we could've gone inside!
An actual part of the Berlin Wall.
They re-created the South Lawn of the White House behind the museum.
This sounds really goofy, but the truth is, green grass doesn't grow by itself (unless you water it like crazy) anywhere west of Dallas.
So this was the first lush, green grass we'd seen the whole trip (since we were in East Texas). Sarah and I happily kicked off our flip flops and walked around in it for a while. :)
