After a blisteringly hot couple of days in Boulder City, it was wonderful to drive into San Diego. We had to get across the Mojave Desert first, though! I think I slept through most of it. Desert is just that...miles and miles and miles of....nothing. But San Diego is beautiful!
I have to tell you how the LORD provided a place for us to stay that week. My dad called an old Navy buddy of his who he'd practically lost touch with over the years- all he wanted to know was if his friend knew of a good campground that wasn't in the city. Mr. Dennis immediately replied, "Yeah, I know of a place! My driveway!" What a blessing! The campgrounds in San Diego charge around $65-70 a night just to park a camper!
Here are a few (slightly random) pictures from our time in San Diego- more pictures coming from specific places we went to!
One of the first billboards we saw for In-N-Out!
Finally, green trees! (We'd just driven through the desert, remember.)
Meet Gator! He's a Catahoula hound, which is the Louisiana state dog! We loved him. :) And we decided we ought to get a Catahoula hound...named Gumbo. :)
Here's Shelby! She's one of three (adorable!) Shelties at our friends' house, and she has such a sweet, shy personality. :)
The fresh fruit and vegetables in San Diego are SO good! We made homemade salsa one night!
Pepper Poppers. Warning: you might get addicted to them. We almost did. So easy! Halve jalapeƱos lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, fill with cream cheese, wrap in bacon, and bake on a cookie sheet in a 450 degree oven until the bacon's done. SO GOOD!
The view from our friends' house! Can you imagine waking up to this every day?!
Chili rellenos (from scratch- Mrs. Julie is such a good cook!!)
Sarah and I suddenly discovered one day that we still had a pound of Conecuh sausage in the freezer in the camper, and we could easily get everything else we needed to make gumbo. So we did.
One day I will have to get Sarah to write out her recipe for Cajun chicken-and-sausage gumbo. It is to die for.
And then one night we made guacamole...with fresh Haas avacados and that homemade salsa from the other night...and we ate, like, half a bowl...with fresh Indian bread...
oh goodness.
Now I'm hungry. And you probably are, too!
Needless to say, we ate reeeeally well in San Diego. :)
The last night we were there, Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Julie invited some other friends over for supper. We loved meeting Kayla!
We were chatting away and all of the sudden she realized we're fans of Hunter Hayes and she's a fan of Hunter Hayes and we're musical instrument geeks and she's a musical instrument geek and...

...we had fun. :)
